Instructor Training Part 3.

Part 3 is a test of Instrucional Ability.

The test is in two parts - Phase 1 and Phase 2. You should time each phase to last no more than approximately half an hour. You SE will first take on the role of a beginner, or a learner with little knowledge of the subject (Phase 1) and then a leaner who is part trained or at test standard. (Phase 2) Phase 1, you will need to give a briefing and a full talk-through, and then prompting. Phase 2, you will not need to give a briefing or prompt. It's important to get the SE moving as soon as possible. You will need to observe and deal with his faults.

Based on the lessons given the examiner would determine whether the following criteria had been satified:

Instructional Points

  • Did the candidate cover all the necessary key points satisfactorily?

Core Competencies

  • Identification of faults: Did the candidate spot the majority of the faults committed?
  • Fault analysis: Did the candidate establish the reasons for the faults?
  • Remedial action: Was the candidate able to cure the faults?

Instructional Techniques

  • Level of instruction: Did the candidate give the right amount of support?
  • Planning: Was the instruction and lesson conducted in a logical manner?
  • Control of lesson: Did the candidate exhibit confidence?
  • Communication: Was the candidate easily understood?
  • Q/A Technique: Did the candidate use questions to help understanding?
  • Feedback/Encouragement: Did the candidate motivate the learner?
  • Instructors use of controls: Did the candidate use as necessary?

Instructor Characteristics

  • Attitude and approach to pupil: Was the candidate friendly but professional?
